ABOUT
"There is genuine ache in her vocals, and perfectly timed inflections accent that melancholy. Further, she delivers it with enough passion to sell it."
- Michael Canter, The Jivewired Journal
Erin O'Dowd is a Cosmic Americana Singer-Songwriter originally from Tulsa and now based in Nashville. Her lilting vocals often draw comparison to Emmylou Harris and Loretta Lynn, and her lofty melodies are reminiscent of simpler times. Her 5-piece band combines influences of Classic Country, Psych Folk, and Roots to create a fresh interpretation of Americana and Red Dirt Nation calls her "a powerful and capable solo performer." Her moving songs tell timeless tales of love, endless longing, and adventure, all wrapped up in lush musical medicine for your ears.
The youngest daughter of a preacher, O'Dowd grew up singing in church and school talent shows and wrote her first song on the family piano at age two. An avid writer from a young age, she spent hours in the family treehouse dreaming up poems and short stories. She taught herself guitar at age 15 and decided she would become a singer-songwriter. She still hasn't changed her mind.
So far in her career, O’Dowd has opened for Kenny Rogers, best-selling author David Sedaris, and Terri Hendrix & Lloyd Maines. O'Dowd's self-made video for her song "Trick Pony" recently premiered on American Songwriter, who listed her debut album as Best New Music on the front page of their website.
O'Dowd has played Woodfest, Merle Haggard Tribute Festival G-Fest, the historic Bitter End in Greenwich Village, and in 2017 she toured Canada. She's received multiple sponsorships to Folk AIliance International and SERFA, and her song “Robin’s Egg Blue” won John Prine guitarist Jason Wilber’s Searchlight Songwriting Competition. Jeff Gemmill of Old Grey Cat says “She’s someone who’s album I would buy tomorrow and likely obsess over."
Erin O'Dowd's debut album, OLD TOWN, was produced by Rolling Stone acclaimed multi-instrumentalist Travis Linville and features Grammy nominated singer-songwriter John Fullbright on keys. The ten song, self-penned gem features a treasure trove of Oklahoma talent, including members of Fullbright's backing band, various instrumentation by Linville, and legendary Midwest pedal steel player Roger Ray of Jason Boland & The Stragglers. OLD TOWN will release May 4th on Horton Records, and O’Dowd will be touring the US extensively in 2018. Look out for her at BMI’s Key West Songwriters Festival, Woody Guthrie Folk Festival, and more!
"I am so intrigued with her songwriting... I plan to get to as many of Erin's shows as possible."
